Rimfire Rests

A variety of rests can be used in RBGC Rimfire Benchrest competition based on rifle classification as summarized in the table below. This page shows some representative permissible rests, it is not intended to be a restrictive list.

Front Bags

A bag made of suitable material filled with a granular material is permitted for use to support the front of the rifle. Many styles, types and materials are available. There is no restriction on fill material except that it must be granular – no solid fill.

Typical Front Bag

 Rear Bags & Rests


A bag made of suitable material filled with a granular material is permitted for use to support the rear of the rifle in conjunction with any appropriate front bag, bi-pod, or mechanical rest. For the Precision Rifle and Unlimited Rifle classes, a mechanical rear rest is permissible.

Bi-Pods


A bi-pod may be used for any class of rifle. There are no restrictions on bi-pod type or style.

 Mechanical Front Rests



Any mechanical front rest, including simple height adjustable, more complex windage adjustable, and full coaxial rests are permissible. They may be used in conjunction with bags or mechanical rear rests depending on rifle class.

One Piece Rests


In the Unlimited Rifle class, any one-piece rest is permitted. The rifle must not be attached to the rest and must lift freely with no restraint. No return to battery (AKA Railguns) are permitted.
